The Five BVCT Missions

Every Virtual Clinical Trial you design in the Validator begins by choosing a BVCT Mission. The mission tells the engine what kind of asset you are derisking and which decision it should optimize for — a first-in-class target, a best-in-class drug, a live program, an acquisition, or a new indication. The Route Planner exposes all five as a single row of toggles, each with its own accent color so you always know which mission is active.

The BVCT Mission selector sits near the top of the Route Planner. Click a mission to switch context; the active mission is highlighted with its accent color and a bordered chip. Some missions reveal extra inputs once selected — for example, Enhancement adds a Drug Design Enhancement plan, and Optimization adds a Trial Design Optimization panel.

Each mission carries a short hint under its label describing what it is for: targets, candidates, trials, M&A, or indications.

Tip: The mission you choose changes which downstream panels appear. If you do not see the inputs you expect, confirm the correct mission is highlighted first.

Note: The mission only frames the question. Whatever mission you pick, the BVCT still runs the same underlying virtual-trial engine and ends in a single GO / NO-GO readout. The three toggles described below — Type, Mode, and Goal — further scope the run.

BVCT Type — Ongoing vs Planning

The BVCT Type toggle tells the engine whether you are modeling a trial that already exists or one you are still designing on paper. It is a two-way switch directly under the mission selector.

Type	Meaning	When to use it
ONGOING	You are analyzing a trial or program that is already running.	Reading across a live protocol, an in-flight readout, or a competitor's active study.
PLANNING	You are designing a trial that has not started yet.	Drafting a new protocol, a Target Clinical Profile, or a what-if design before any patients enroll.

Tip: Type is independent of Mission. You can, for example, run an Optimization mission on an ONGOING program to find a better combination arm, or a Hypothesis mission in PLANNING to derisk a target before the first protocol draft exists.

BVCT Mode and Goal

Two more toggles scope the clinical question itself: BVCT Mode (the clinical setting) and BVCT Goal (what the run is trying to do). Both default to the most common choice, and the second option of each is a partnership upgrade.

BVCT Mode — Treatment vs Prevention

Mode	Meaning	Availability
TREATMENT	The intervention treats an existing disease in diagnosed patients. This is the default.	Included.
PREVENTION	The intervention aims to prevent disease onset in at-risk but not-yet-diseased populations.	Partnership upgrade — locked by default.

BVCT Goal — Validation vs Discovery

Goal	Meaning	Availability
VALIDATION	Confirm or refute a stated hypothesis or design — the engine tests what you bring to it. This is the default.	Included.
DISCOVERY	Search the space for new answers — for example, surfacing combinations or biomarkers you did not specify.	Partnership upgrade — locked by default.

Locked options: PREVENTION and DISCOVERY are gated behind a partnership upgrade. They appear in the toggle row but are dimmed and not selectable until your account is upgraded. Hovering over a locked option shows: “Contact our team to upgrade your partnership and unlock prevention and discovery.”

Note: Mode and Goal are hidden in certain developer-only validation configurations, where they are fixed automatically. In the standard partner experience they are always visible, with TREATMENT and VALIDATION pre-selected.
